METHOD FOR PRODUCING alpha-TRIFLUOROMETHYL-beta-HYDROXYCARBONYL COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial method for producing anα-trifluoromethyl-β-hydroxycarbonyl compound which is an important intermediate for medicines, agrochemicals and optical materials. SOLUTION: Anα-trifluoromethylcarbonyl compound and an aldehyde are condensed in the presence of titanium tetrachloride and an organic base to thereby produce theα-trifluoromethyl-β-hydroxycarbonyl compound. The method for production is an excellent method for industrially producing theα-trifluoromethyl-β-hydroxycarbonyl compound because operation is simple with a high selectivity of reaction without requiring an expensive regent and impurities difficult to separate are scarcely formed as a by-product.
