The aim of the invention is to reduce undesired T1 contrast in the detected signals of a magnetic resonance imaging sequence. Said aim is achieved by implementing irregularly spaced inversions of longitudinal magnetization MZ in such a way that a state is created in which magnetic resonance signals generated between the inversions or following a sequence of such inversions are provided with a reduced T1 dependence. Said state is created by controlling the intervals (TP, TA) of the MZ inversions that are inserted as individual intermediate HF effects during generation of a sequence of magnetic resonance signals and/or are created as a result of inversions prior to a sequence of signals.
