<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to speedily return from a power saving mode without making the structure of the apparatus complex even for coping with the power-saving mode in order to reduce an amount of power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus which is adaptable to the power-saving mode includes: a control part 1 that performs a control process for image formation and in which power supply is stopped in the power-saving mode; and a volatile main memory 3 that stores information necessary for the control process and to which power is continuously supplied even in the power-saving mode. When the supply of power to the control part 1 is started, the control part 1 judges whether it is returned from the power-saving mode or not.
