PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a center pillar having a composite structure and an excellent energy absorbing characteristic without hampering reduction in weight. SOLUTION: Inside a resinous outer panel 3 having a hat-shaped cross section containing fiber as reinforcement, a metal reinforcement 5 having an almost similar figure to the outer panel is integrally arranged using an insert molding method. The outer panel 3 is fastened to an inner panel 4 with rivets 6 together with the reinforcement 5 so as to form the center pillar 2 of a closed cross sectional structure. On the top flat surface 5a of the reinforcement 5, a bending deformation promoting bead 7 is formed for triggering buckling deformation during bending load inputting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
