PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for re-forming a coating on optical fibers which, when a part obtained by removing coating from the optical fibers of different diameters and welding the the optical fibers is coated with resin material, realize prevention of the resin material from cracking at both end parts from which the coatings are removed. SOLUTION: An approximately conic re-coated part 9 is formed by using a female mold having an approximately conic cavity part. The one end of the conic cavity part has an inner diameter larger than the outer diameter of a coated part 202a on the larger coated diameter side of optical fibers 201a, 201b, and the other end side of the conic cavity part has an inner diameter larger than the outer diameter of the coated part 202b on a smaller coated diameter side of the optical fibers 201a, 201b, and the length of the conic cavity part is larger than those of the parts 203a, 203b from which the coatings on the respective optical fibers 201a, 201b are removed.
