PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a decision is made that an input video signal is not a telecine video signal when a broadcast station inserts a superimposition, e.g. a telop, into the video image of cinema. SOLUTION: The field or frame screen of an input video signal is divided into a plurality of small regions and absolute value of interframe difference is compared with a specified threshold value for each line. A decision is made that an identical field is not detected if the absolute value of interframe difference is larger than the specified threshold value, otherwise a decision is made that an identical field is detected and an input video signal is a telecine video signal. Only a specific line where a pattern of telecine video signal has not occurred is processed normally and telecine video signal processing is performed for other lines. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
