PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce aliasing at the edges of slanted lines and boundaries in a map display device using index colors. SOLUTION: Background colors set in a color table in advance, road display colors, and index values of intermediate colors between them are stored in a display color table. When creating a map image in a VRAM, a back scenery is depicted using an index value of the back scenery color in the table, then, a three dot square dot pattern (a) to which the index value of the intermediate color is allocated is constituted. By moving the dot pattern from a start point to a final point of the road one dot by one dot, a base of the road is depicted on the back scenery. Then, by moving the dot pattern of the road display color one dot by one dot, a core part 50 of the road is written on the base of the road.
