PURPOSE: Provided is a simple method for preparing ZnO nanowires by oxidizing ZnO particles formed through thermal deposition in the air unlike the conventional method under vacuum or gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION: The ZnO nanowires or ZnO particles comprising Zn nanowires on the surface of Zn metal are prepared by forming Zn particles through thermal deposition process, depositing Zn metal(37) on a sapphire substrate(29), and then oxidizing Zn particles at 900deg.C or higher at least 10min under air atmosphere. The resultant nanowires have zinc-oxygen having a ratio Zn/O of 1 to 1, and large diameter and long length as time and temperature for oxidation get higher and longer.
