1291695 Gas turbine engines; jet pumps GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 16 Jan 1970 [23 Jan 1969] 2187/70 Headings F1E F1G and FIT The bearings 36, 48, 50, 64, 76, Fig.1, of a gas turbine engine are enclosed within annular lubrication sumps 38, 54, 68, 80 having labyrinth seals 42, 56, 70, 82. To prevent lubricating oil from leaking from the sumps through the seals, the latter are enclosed in sealing chambers 40, 60, 74, 86 supplied with pressurized air by ejector pumps 96, 98 through lines 112, 110, 108, 106. The ejector pumps are powered by air bled through line 92 from an intermediate stage of engine compressor 20, and induce ambient air through inlets 102. The induced air mixes with the bled air and cools it to an acceptable temperature before the pressurized air mixture is used for sealing the sumps. A respective ejector pump may be provided for each sump. The sump 38 contains gears (90), Fig.2 (not shown), for driving a lubricating oil pump which continuously draws oil and air from the sump.
