PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which realizes the accurate detection of the amount of dust in a dust collection bag free from variations in the expansion forces depending on the types of the trashes nor the fluctuation of the pressures due to the sucked dust by detecting the expansion forces after the stoppage of the suction. SOLUTION: The cleaner has an electric fan 12 for generating sucking air, the dust collection bag for catching the dust sucked be the sucking air, an expansion force detecting means 31 for detecting the expansion force of the dust collection bag after the stoppage of the suction and a judging means 32 which judges the amount of the dust in the dust collection bag based on the outputs of the expansion force detecting means 31. This eliminates the variations in the expansion forces depending on the types of the trashes and the fluctuation of the pressures due to the sucked dust, thereby enabling the accurate detection of the amount of the dust in the dust collection bag.
