PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a URL retrieval system and a URL retrieval method whereby a user is not required to assume a keyword for information he or she desires to access by himself or herself, and the user need not select his or her desired URL from the retrieved result by himself or herself even when a multiplicity of URLs are selected by the retrieval. SOLUTION: A proxy search server 200 creates a search expression using information received from a user terminal 100. A search engine server 300 extracts a URL based on the search expression received from the proxy search server 200. If the number of the extracted URLs exceeds a predetermined value, the search engine server sends information indicating to which hierarchical level each URL belongs, to the user terminal 100 for the user selection, via the proxy search server 200. The search engine server 300 selects the URL belonging to the hierarchical level selected by the user from the extracted URLs. If the number of the extracted URLs does not exceed the predetermined value, the search engine server 300 sends the URLs to the user terminal 100 via the proxy search server 200 as a retrieval result.
