PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorption type steering column device capable of suppressing sudden change of the column speed before and after starting the operation of an impact energy absorption means, and suppressing sudden drop of the chest part deceleration (referred to as the chest G) occurred immediately after starting the operation of the impact energy absorption means when the absorption quantity of the secondary collision energy absorbed by the impact energy absorption means is large. SOLUTION: In order to reduce the absorption load of the secondary collision energy generated in the beginning of the operation when the secondary collision energy is absorbed by energy absorption members 82 and 83 and a block 84 by the operation of a solenoid 86 in comparison with the absorption load of the secondary collision energy generated in the beginning of the operation when the secondary collision energy is absorbed by energy absorption members 81 and 82 and the block 84 which are impact energy absorption means by the operation of the solenoid 86 as a variable means, a front end part 83a of the shape having a gentle angle of inclination while gradually tapered and pointed in the tip is provided on the energy absorption member 83.
