[Also in Division G2] An apparatus for the spectrographic analysis of gases occluded in metals includes an excitation chamber having an atmosphere of inert gas under low pressure, a vertically adjustable electrode carrier 13 sealed through a bell 1 containing a rotatable platform 30 for supporting a specimen, a mechanical device (not shown) for rotating the platform 30, a jack (not shown) for raising the bell 1 and for pressing it on to a support 10, and means 22, 63 for supplying the electrode 79 and platform 30 with voltages of opposite polarity. The metal bell 1 has a water cooling jacket 2 and windows mounted in covers 6 and 7. A plurality of cups 81 containing specimens may be brought in turn adjacent the electrode 79 by controlled rotation of the platform 30. Conduits 73, 74 and 82 communicate with a system (Fig. 3, not shown) for automatically pumping, supplying argon, and controlling the water supply to the jacket 2.</p> |
