PURPOSE: A video data transmission apparatus and a video data receiving apparatus are provided to reduce the quantity of video data to be transmitted by processing the video data in response to display specification, to thereby decrease a processing load of a reproducing unit and reduce memory capacity required for processing or communication. CONSTITUTION: A video data transmission apparatus(10) includes a controller(12) and a transmitter(15) for transmitting video data. The controller controls the quantity of video data to be transmitted with reference to information about a video data transmission rate. The controller presumes the information based on recorded values relating to line speeds and controls the quantity of video data to be transmitted based on the result.
