TEMPORAL NOISE REDUCING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR OBTAINING IMAGES HAVING HIGH RESOLUTION

PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for reducing temporal noise are provided to obtain images having high resolution by removing noise using a noise reduction coefficient in proportion to the level of noise included in a video signal. CONSTITUTION: A temporal noise reducing apparatus includes a noise measuring unit(220) for extracting a predetermined region of the currently input frame/frame and measuring a noise level of the extracted region, and a storage unit(230) for storing a noise reduction coefficient corresponding to the noise level. The apparatus further includes a controller(250) for extracting the noise reduction coefficient corresponding to the measured noise level from the storage unit to produce the first and second noise reduction coefficients that will be respectively allocated to the current frame/field and previous frame/field, and a final frame/field producing unit(260) for respectively allocating the first and second noise reduction coefficients to the current frame/field and previous frame/field to produce a noise-reduced final frame/field.
