PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to prevent deterioration of display quality caused by interference between a light exiting from a backlight and a light reflected from a black matrix and scattering of light at the surface of insulating layer. CONSTITUTION: A gate line and a data line are formed on a lower substrate(20), wherein the gate line and the data line cross with each other to designate a pixel region. A TFT(Thin Film Transistor) and a pixel electrode are formed in the pixel region. An upper substrate(30) is opposite to the lower substrate(20). A black matrix(31) corresponding to the gate line, the data line and the TFT is formed on the upper substrate, wherein the black matrix has a round shaped section. A color filter(32) corresponding to the pixel electrode is formed on the upper substrate.
