<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back-lighting illuminator which has uniformized luminance and improved utilization factor of the light. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminator is well suited to be used for a liquid crystal display. The illuminator for the liquid crystal display is characterized in that it includes a plurality of long light sources spaced in parallel, a diffusion element which is disposed on the front side of the long light sources and has a prism part with specified mountain-shaped cross section and a reflection body which is disposed on the rear side of the long light sources and has a number of slopes at least directly below the long light sources. In particular, the illuminator for the liquid crystal display is characterized in that it has the slopes of the reflection body each consisting of a number of discontinuous rectangular cells as units aligned and arranged in row and column directions, the slope being inclined at an angle of ≥3° and ≤45° to a horizontal surface of the reflection body. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
