PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for charging a rechargeable power source in a mobile device via a USB (universal serial bus) port. SOLUTION: A charger apparatus, for charging the rechargeable power source in a mobile device via the USB, is provided with a power converter constituted by receiving an input voltage from an external power source so as to generate a charger output having a regulated voltage; a signal generator constituted in a manner of generating a charger configuration signal having a preselected frequency and duty cycle; and a USB connector for connecting the charger output and the charger configuration signal to the USB port of the mobile device. The mobile device is characterized by specifying the operating characteristics of the charger apparatus from the frequency and the duty cycle of the charger configuration signal to be constituted so as to recharge the rechargeable power source, by applying the charger output.
