PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element for emitting especially red light with high brightness and stability at an optimum wavelength. SOLUTION: This is an organic electroluminescent element in which an organic layer having a light-emitting area is disposed between an anode and a cathode, and an organic substance emitting light by injection of an electric current is included as a component element. It is featured in that at least a part of the organic layer includes at least one kind of bis (aminostyryl) phenanthrene compounds expressed in a general formula [I], [II] or [III] (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>12</SP>to R<SP>15</SP>, R<SP>25</SP>to R<SP>28</SP>are phenyl groups or naphthyl groups the same as or different from one another, and R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>17</SP>, R<SP>29</SP>, and R<SP>30</SP>are electron-withdrawing groups such as cyano groups the same as or different from one another).
