PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine stop device during driver's absence in an industrial vehicle capable of preventing running of the vehicle when the driver is away from a seat and shift is in a running possible position. SOLUTION: In this engine stop device 1, a contact 17a of a normally opened relay 17 is provided in an operation current path 15 to an ignition coil 13, and current is carried into a coil 17b through a first control current path 19 and a second control current path 21. A timer means 25 shuts off current carrying in the first control current path when it is detected that the driver's absence continues for a predetermined period of time by a seat switch 27. Normally closed relays 29 and 31 are excited by operation of a shift switch 7 and shuts off current carrying in the second control current path when shift position is at advance and backing positions.
