PURPOSE: A method for interworking an SMS with an IM(Instant Message) service is provided to interwork an SMS with an IM service, so that subscribers using existing mobile terminals where mobile IM programs are not mounted can exchange messages with IM buddies of a wired network by using the SMS. CONSTITUTION: A user presses a specific number by using a mobile terminal(10)(S202). The mobile terminal(10) sends an SM(Short Message) to an SMSC/SMSS(SMS Server)(16)(S204). The SMSC/SMSS(16) sends the SM to an SIM G/W(SMS to IM Gateway)(18)(S206). The SIM G/W(18) transmits an ID of a sender and login information to an IMSP(IM Service Provider)(22)(S208). The IMSP(22) requests state information on registered buddies(S210). A state server(26) collects the state information on the buddies, and transmits the collected information(S212). The IMSP(22) sends the collected information to the SIM G/W(18)(S214). The SIM G/W(18) processes the information while assigning a number for calling the ID(S216), and sends the processed information(S218). The SMSC/SMSS(16) sends the state information to the terminal(10)(S220). The user writes an IM in SMS type(S222), and sends the IM to the SMSC/SMSS(16)(S224). The SMSC/SMSS(16) sends the SM to the SIM G/W(18)(S226). The SIM G/W(18) converts the IM into an IM service type(S228), and transmits the converted message to a buddy PC(24)(S230).
