PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for allocating the transmission power of an ADSL system by which a calculation load is reduced so that the total number of bits distributed to transmission channels is made equal to the target number of bits. SOLUTION: An ATC-C1 as a station side ADSL device transmits several frequency signals to an ATU-R2 as an opposite subscriber side ADSL device, and performs data transmission by performing multi-carrier modulation based on notified allocation bits and transmission power information. The ATU-R2 as the subscriber side ADSL device calculates the SNR for each carrier, and determines the allocation bits for each carrier based on the calculated SNR, and notifies the pertinent allocation bits and transmission power to the ATU-C1.
