PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which makes an output image free from the occurrence of stripes by providing a device which detects dust to preliminarily inform a user about it. SOLUTION: In the image forming device, one or more documents are illuminated by an illumination part 1 arranged below a contact glass 5 fixed in an arbitrary position when being carried onto the contact glass, and the reflected light is received by a light receiving element located in an image read part 2 and is converted to an electric signal, and this signal is sent to an image forming part 4 to generate a copy image. The image forming device has an examination means 11 for examining an abnormal value from the output of the read part 2 receiving the reflected light, on the side of the contact glass 5 to which documents are carried, and a member which has such a high reflectivity that sufficient reflected light can be given to the light receiving element, arranged on the side of the contact glass 5 to which documents are carried, and has a confirming means 12 that informs the user of the examination result and performs confirmation.
