PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device and a roll body capable of accurately managing a residual amount of lengthy recording medium wound in a roll shape. SOLUTION: The recording device is provided with a non-contact IC unit 202 capable of reading/writing a residual amount-related information relating to a residual amount of recording medium on the roll body 112 wound with the lengthy recording medium and is constituted so as to record an image on a part of the recording medium payed out from the roll body 112. Further, the device is provided with a read/write unit 117 capable of carrying out reading and writing of the information with the non-contact IC unit 202; and a means for newly calculating the residual amount-related information varying accompanying with recording operation to the recording medium based on the residual amount relation information read out from the non-contact IC unit and writing and renewing it on the non-contact IC unit.
