PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and its driving method are provided, which reduces power consumption further in driving a compact liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel(10) has a number of pixels formed by a plurality of gate lines and data lines and each pixel comprises a memory cell. A mode conversion unit(30) commands driving mode change of the liquid crystal panel. A timing controller(20) drives the liquid crystal panel in a normal mode and a power-saving mode according to the command of the mode conversion unit. A data driver(40) receives an image data signal from the timing controller and then outputs it to each data line. And a gate driver(50) decodes gate driving information from the timing controller and then outputs a gate driving signal to a corresponding gate line.
