PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly control braking, in an own vehicle wherein braking force acts on a vehicle based on the possibility of contact of the own vehicle with a body on a front side of the own vehicle. SOLUTION: When the own vehicle travels under the condition where the own vehicle detects the body on the front side, the braking force is made to act on the vehicle while a contact evading braking torque calculated in response to the possibility of the contact with a preceding vehicle is reduced along with an increase of a relative speed with respect to the preceding vehicle, when a vehicular speed of the preceding vehicle is faster than that of the own vehicle.
