PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive lightweight and compact AC-DC converter. SOLUTION: The AC-DC converter comprises a means for rectifying an input AC voltage having such properties as an amplitude increases as a frequency increases, a smoothing means having a plurality of smoothing capacitors of different capacities and breakdown voltages and outputting a DC voltage by smoothing a rectified voltage from the rectifying means, and a capacity control means for monitoring the state of the rectified voltage and switching the total capacity of the smoothing means.
