ELECTROCHEMICAL CAPACITOR AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURE OF ELECTROCHEMICAL CAPACITOR

An electrochemical capacitor having electrodes being opposite to each other and a dielectric material provided between said electrodes, characterized in that use is made, as the dielectric material, of a proton conducting gel which has a dispersed phase comprising a phosphate molecular chain having a straight chain structure or/and cyclic structure being formed by the reaction of a phosphate glass prepared by the melt process with water and having an OH group bonded to a phosphorus atom and a dispersion medium comprising water being present around OH groups of said phosphate molecular chain. The above electrochemical capacitor can ensure a high voltage, is free from the leak of a fluid and is reduced in the load for the maintenance thereof.
