PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrode for discharging surface treatment, which improves a denseness of a coating without causing the instability of discharge, and to provide a discharging surface treatment method. SOLUTION: The discharging surface treatment comprises generating a pulsed discharge between the electrode of a green compact formed by compression-molding the powder of a metal or a metal compound, and a workpiece; and forming a coating consisting of an electrode material or a substance produced after the electrode material has been reacted by the discharging energy, on a workpiece surface.
