Method has the following steps: provision of a first reference RC element; determination of a standard RC time constant for the reference element; carrying out of charge and discharge cycles during a predefined evaluation period that is matched to the standard RC time constant; determination of the number of executed cycles and; calculation of the quotient of the measured number of executed cycles and the reference number of executed cycles which acts as a measure of the ratio of the two time constants.
