1532975 Easy-open can ends CONTINENTAL GROUP Inc 13 Oct 1975 [11 Dot 1974] 41782/75 Addition to 1501162 Heading B8D An eccentric pouring aperture of a metal beverage can end 4, which is sealed by a peelable adhesive pull strip 40, comprises four or more holes so sized and disposed that, on pouring of the can contents, the liquid jets issuing from the holes converge and coalesce into a single stream. As shown, the pouring aperture is formed by four identical holes 9-12 arranged in a cruciform pattern centred on a can diameter with the hole 9 being flanked by smaller holes 13 and 14. A vent hole 28 is additionally provided and a further small hole 27 optionally provided. The pull-strip is of the form described and claimed in the Parent Specification 1,501,162. In modified embodiments, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), the pour aperture is constituted by two pairs of holes (50, 51 and 52, 53), the holes of each pair being symmetrically disposed about a diameter of the can end to define an aperture tapering from adjacent the panel periphery towards the can centre, venting being provided by separate holes or by the inner ends of one pair of holes (52, 53). |
