Woven fabric, textile or fiber material(14,15) is braided or wrapped around individual cores(11,12) to produce individual long hollow profiles(17,18). The individual profiles are then placed side by side to form a single unit(100) and further fabric, textile or fiber material is braided or wrapped around them to link both together and form a united profile. The fabric, textile or fiber material is impregnated with liquid plastic to produce a final composite structure. Braiding or winding around the individual cores(11,12) is effected in one direction. Braiding or winding around individual cores is at +-45[deg] to the profile length. After joining both hollow profiles(17,18) to form a single unit(100) the subsequent winding or braiding around the latter is carried out in a different direction. When braiding or winding around the combined cores the fabric, textile or fibers run parallel to or perpendicular to the profile length. Winding or braiding of individual and/or combined cores is effected with either yarn or fabric strips or by pulling a prefabricated textile tube over the cores. Cores may be either: a) a low weight material such as foam which remains in the finished item; b) solid and removed after impregnation with plastic; c) a soluble or meltable material which is dissolved or melted out of the individual profiles after impregnation. The reinforcement-covered individual profiles(17,18) may be impregnated with plastic before they are joined together, then covered by further reinforcement which is then impregnated. Alternatively the reinforcement-covered individual profiles are joined in a dry state, wrapped in further reinforcement and then the entire reinforcement impregnated. Braiding or winding of individual profiles and/or the entire profile may be effected with preimpregnated material which is subsequently heated to melt the resin. An independent claim is included for a hollow fiber reinforced plastic profile with internal stiffening ribs(110).
|
