The process involves subjecting a wooden barrel (10) to initial heat materialized by a zone (20) of the barrel. The initial heat zone is retained on one part of the inner surface of the barrel. New heat zone is produced which is materialized by another zone of the barrel. The initial heat zone is retained by the removal of material between the heads of and along the length of a hull (12). An independent claim is also included for a device for the implementation of a process for treating a wooden barrel.
