PURPOSE: A mobile storage device freely changing a data bus width and a method for setting the data bus width are provided to freely change the data bus width if necessary without previously fixing the data bus width. CONSTITUTION: A flash memory(250) stores data. A command packet decoder(230) receives command packets through a command line(210) and outputs command information by decoding the command packets. A controller(240) performs controlling operations by responding to the command information. The command packet decoder is equipped with a packet receiver(231) receiving/separating a data transfer command packet and a data request command packet into a command field and an argument field, a command field decoder(232) outputting a write or read command by decoding the command field, and an argument/bus information decoder(233) outputting address information and data bus width information by decoding the argument field.
