PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for assigning sub-carrier for pilot channel are provided to perform easily a receiving operation through a pilot channel by assigning sub-carriers of the pilot channel to a pilot frequency band. CONSTITUTION: An entire frequency band is divided into a plurality of sub-frequency bands. Reference signals are transmitted through the divided sub-frequency bands. Data signals are transmitted through the residual sub-frequency bands excepting the sub-frequency bands for transmitting the reference signals. The sub-frequency bands for transmitting the reference signals are assigned to a reference signal frequency band. The reference signals are transmitted through the reference signal frequency band at a reference signal setup period. The data signals are not transmitted through the reference signal frequency band at a remaining period excepting the reference signal setup period.
