<p>The work-piece mounting may be utilised on a lathe-poppet, centres axially on a cylindrical workpiece and positions the piece precisely in prepn for serialised precision machining operations e.g. cylindrical rectification between points. The mounting has a very hard conical point (2) which retracts against spring (10) pressure until the piece contacts the stop (4) face. Details may include a housing (1) containing a spring-loaded slide (3) of tempered steel. A point (2) of tungsten carbide is cottered (11) into the slide (3) and projects through a stop-block (4). The stop (4) has precise geometry, is mounted on combined bearings (5) and has seals (6) and masks (7) permitting life-lubrication. The spring (10) is calibrated and adjustable manually by a serrated hand-wheel (8).</p> |
