The method involves storing, in a mobile terminal, system information specific to a public land mobile network (PLMN) that is previously used by the terminal. The system information contains parameters used for selection/reselection of cells, characteristics of common channels used in the cells, and an identity of location area of the terminal. A suitable cell is searched from the system information in an order of priority. An independent claim is also included for a multimode mobile communication terminal.
