Aromatic polyamide prepreg for filamentary winding prodn. - using epoxy! resin impregnant contg. flexibiliser and hardener

A prepreg. for filamentary windings based on aromatic polyamide fibres is produced by impregnating the fibrous material with a compsn. comprising a low viscosity epoxy resin contg. a flexibilising agent and a heat-reactive hardener in amts. such that the resin has an extension of 5-60% after heating, the compsn. also contg. a diluent to promote wetting of the fibres. Used for prodn. of envelopes of any capacity to be subjected to internal or external pressures, e.g. for astronautics involving propergol, also for prodn. of tanks and energy storing systems. The prepregs. exhibit high performance and are equivalent in this respect to prepregs. formed by direct methods.
