The housing (3) has an annular flow channel extending from a fluid intake aperture (3b) to an adjacent outlet aperture (3c). A motor (4) drives an impeller (1) which generates a vortex flow in the annular channel. A restrictor (3f) reduces the cross section of the flow channel, which has an annular groove (3a) located opposite the vanes (1a) of the impeller (1). The inlet and outlet apertures (3b, 3c) are at opposite ends of the annular groove, part of the circumference of which is divided by a partition (3d). The restrictor is in a section of the flow channel between the outlet and a point central to the inlet and outlet apertures. A secondary fluid flow is introduced into the flow channel from the inlet so that the fluid is deflected to form vortices. USE/ADVANTAGE - For use as centrifugal gas or fluid pump.
