Detection of coatings using emissivity or reflectivity

The method involves propagating light rays from a source (18) through a passage between fins, and reflecting some light rays off a coating on the fins. The light rays reflected off the coating are detected and a predetermined benchmark is determined for the reflected light rays. The reflected light rays are compared to a benchmark, and a signal is provided relative to the reflected light rays crossing the benchmark. An independent claim is also included for a heat exchanger assembly implementing the spaced fins coating presence detecting method.
