<p>The invention provides a process by which ethynylbenzene derivatives can be simply produced from 3-chloro-3-substituted propenal derivatives under safe and environment-friendly conditions with low effluent loading and which is suitable for the production on an industrial scale, that is, a process for the production of ethynylbenzene derivatives represented by the general formula (2): [wherein R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are each independently hydrogen, halogeno, or the like; l is an integer of 1 to 6; and m, n, o, p, and q are each independently an integer of 0 to 5 with the proviso that the sum of o and p is 5 or below and the sum of l, m, n and q is 6 or below], characterized by reacting a 3-halogeno-3-substituted propenal derivative represented by the general formula (1): [wherein X and Y are each independently halogeno; and R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, Z, l, m, n, o, p and q are each as defined above] with a base in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst.</p> |
