A purge valve (200) includes an aperture (206), a member (240), and an actuator (100). The aperture (206) defines a portion of a vapor flow path that extends between a first port (202) that communicates vapor with a fuel vapor collection canister (14) and a second port (204) that communicates vapor with an intake manifold (18). The member (240) is displaced with respect to the aperture (206) between a first configuration wherein the member (240) occludes the aperture (206) and a second configuration that permits vapor flow along the vapor flow path. The actuator (100) displaces the member (240) between the first and second configurations and includes an armature (140) and a stator (120). The stator (120) includes a winding (122) that extends along an axis. And the armature (140), which is coupled to the member (240), surrounds the winding (122) and includes a permanent magnet (142).
