There are provided an optical wavelength multiplex access system and a corresponding optical network unit. A downstream optical signal wavelength band Da (wavelength lambdad1 to lambdadn) corresponding to n ONU's, an upstream optical signal wavelength band Ua (wavelength lambdau1 to lambdaun) corresponding to n ONU's, a downstream optical signal wavelength band Db (wavelength lambdadn+1 to lambdadn+m) corresponding to m ONU's, and an upstream optical signal wavelength band Ub (wavelength lambdaun+1 to lambdaun+m) corresponding to m ONU's are set at different bands from one another. Ua and Ub are adjacent to each other. At least one pair of Ua and Da or Ub and Db is set at the adjacent band. Each of the ONU's includes downstream optical signal reception means for receiving a downstream optical signal of wavelength lambdad1 to lambdadn+m assigned in the wavelength band Da to Db and upstream optical signal transmission means for transmitting an upstream optical signal of wavelength lambdau1 to lambdaun+m assigned in the wavelength band Ua to Ub or an upstream optical signal of a wide band including the wavelength band Ua to Ub.
