PURPOSE: A battery charging apparatus and a battery charging method are provided to improve charging efficiency by accurately judging the switching time between a battery charging mode and a charging voltage maintaining mode. CONSTITUTION: A battery charging apparatus comprises a current generating unit(110) for generating current for charging a battery(100); and a charging voltage maintaining unit(140) for judging a charging voltage maintaining mode switching time by comparing the voltage of the battery charged in accordance with the charging current with a preset charging voltage, and adjusting the charging current by generating a charging voltage maintaining current in accordance with the difference between the battery voltage and the preset charging voltage after switching of maintaining mode.
