PURPOSE: A superconducting cable and a superconducting cable line are provided to prevent serious damage upon occurrence of short circuit failure. CONSTITUTION: A superconducting cable(1) comprises a superconducting layer having a portion with a threshold current value differentiated from that of the other portion. The superconducting layer has a current limiting portion having a threshold current value smaller than that of the other portion. A superconducting cable line comprises a superconducting cable having a plurality of cable cores(10); and a divider for accommodating separated parts of the cable cores such that the cable cores are sufficiently spaced apart from each other.
