PURPOSE: A disk information service device and a method during a disk recording are provided to perceive whether a disk drive supports a recording function for an inputted disk, and to perceive information on the corresponding disk as well as disk recording function information when the recording function is not supported, thereby realizing an easy disk management. CONSTITUTION: A disk drive(110) retrieves whether a disk recording function is supported. A computer(100) confirms whether an inserted disk has the supported recording function when a disk recording command is performed, and displays general information on the disk if the recording function is not supported. The computer(100) comprises as follows. A disk backup supporter(101) supplies a user support function accompanied for a data recording function. A disk information service unit(102) displays recording-related information. An information retrieval unit(103) receives an information retrieval request, and returns retrieved results. An interface unit(104) transmits commands formed in the supporter(101) and the service unit(102), or receives data outputted from the disk drive(110).
