DISCHARGE LAMP

A discharge lamp comprising sealing units continuously disposed on the opposite sides of a quartz-glass arc tube, and a pair of electrodes held by the sealing units and disposed oppositely in the arc tube. The discharge lamp is formed with a coating containing a mixture of alkoxysilane solution, colloidal silica water dispersion liquid and metal oxides, or alkaline metal salt of silic acid and metal oxides. For the purpose of effectively preventing the temperature rise of the discharge lamp, the coating is preferably formed on a portion to be heat-radiated, that is, the discharge lamp sealing units, a lead-exposed part, a base attached to one sealing unit end, and a reflection mirror outer surface. In addition, the thickness of the coating is preferably 10-100 µm.
