PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide water-absorbing water-retaining knitting having water-absorbing properties, water-retaining properties, and a dry feeling which are not conventionally realized. SOLUTION: In this water-absorbing water-retaining knitting, convex parts 1 made of a hydrophobic fiber are formed on the top surface, the back surface is structured by using a hydrophilic fiber in an amount of≥30% based on the total weight of the knitting, and the knitting has a returning water content (GS) of≤30% which is measured in a method described in the specification. The knitting preferably has such a three-dimensional structure as to be composed of a top knitted fabric 2, a back knitted fabric 3 opposite to the top fabric, and connecting yarn threads 4 for connecting both the knitted fabrics, wherein the joining yarn threads are made of the hydrophobic fiber.
