PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high rigidity steel whose toughness is not reduced even if its Young's modulus is made high, and which is suitable even for the production of a large-sized structure, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The high rigidity steel incorporates MB type boride with a orthorhombic structure (wherein, M is one or more kinds of metals selected from among V, Ti, Nb and Ta) converted from MB<SB>2</SB>type boride crystallized out from molten steel by working. In such a case, the suitable steel composition consists of, by mass, 0.03 to 1.7% C, 0.05 to 0.5% Si, 0.2 to 1.5% Mn, 1 to 12% V, 0.5 to 3.2% B and 0.001 to 0.01% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
