PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a new polyarylene sulfide resin that has markedly increased crystallization retardancy. SOLUTION: The method for producing a polyarylene sulfide resin comprises step I where a sulfidizing agent and an aromatic dihalo compound (A) are allowed to react with each other in an organic polar solvent until the consumption rate of the sulfidizing agent attains to≥90 mol.% , followed by step II where an aromatic polyhalo compound (B) bearing a substituent having electron attractive resonance effect is added and allowed to react them to complete the polymerization reaction.
